CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Sarona Gayle
CANON: Original Character (Game-based canon)
HISTORY: N/A

STRENGTHS:
Intelligence - Sarona is extremely intelligent and capable of recalling information easily and quickly. Her cognitive skills are highly advanced to the point that by the age of 5, she was already building her own little helper golems. She learns new techniques and applies them quickly and can even think of ways to alter them and use them in different ways. It’s how she learned how to make her own specialized inks to use for her tattoos that allow her combine multiple abilities into one Inscription.

Drive/Motivation - Originally she put so much effort into excelling at Runework because she wanted her family’s approval and attention, only as she got older the need to learn and experiment became the motivation all their own. She is someone who doesn’t give up, never backs down, and always keeps moving forward. This is also why she basically wore the Inkmetal Forge leader down until they accepted her into the guild at 12 years old.

Noblesse oblige - Sarona’s moral philosophy. She truly believes that those with power and privilege must do whatever they can to help and provide opportunities for those who without. She sees it as her more duty to do right by those who have less than her and are less fortunate in society. It is why she became disillusioned with her family and the Runesmith guild, because she saw only greed and self-serving attitudes and none of the desire to serve the community. This is also why she offers herself as a tutor to other students at the Academy, because she wants to make sure those students have all the chances they can to succeed if they care enough to work for it.

FLAWS:
Arrogance/Elitism - Sarona is a very arrogant person, almost by design. She was raised in a family that insisted she was to be one of the Elite, while also being told she wasn’t good enough by their lack of attention and constant demands for better results. If she sees someone as beneath her, she has no qualms in acting like it. Despite recognizing that she had opportunities and benefits others may not have received to help her get to where she is, it’s her blind spot in not always recognizing the toxic elitism she still carries in herself, even though she’s just as likely to call it out in someone else. Instead that elitism often leads her to seeing those she wants to help as victims of society who need her to help them because she’s above them in status and privilege. How else would they manage otherwise?

Perfectionism - Sarona is such a perfectionist that she may go over an Inscription or an essay or a technique she has learned or developed far many more times than she actually needs to, because even the slightest belief she may have made a mistake is enough to drive her to overcompensate. Being told she was actually wrong about something is enough to drive her to hours of distraction where she will either do everything she can to prove she was right, or find out how she could have possibly messed up enough to get it wrong. No matter how minute the mistake. It is a problem she is aware of in herself, but can’t always manage, as when it took days for her teacher in the Inkmetal Forge to calm her down after she miscalculated the special ink she used on her one tattoo that led her hair to turning blue. In the years since then she’s become better at working through this, but it is still an ongoing struggle for her.

Spitefulness/Vindictive - There is many a thing that Sarona will do out of spite, even if she knows it is probably not a good thing to do. She refuses to get surgery or use an Inscription to fix her eyesight because she was bullied about it as a child by her brother and wants to prove she’s better even with her near blindness out of pure spite. She had intentionally disrupted class at her former private school to prove a teacher was wrong about something when they told her she was incorrect about a fact in class, and even drew pictures on the board to prove it. For all her good grades, she has definitely stayed after class or even been sent to the office for this at least once or twice a semester. She will go out of her way to mock or make a fool out of someone who she sees as a bully or a snitch because while she hates people who bully others, she also dislikes goody-two-shoes that tattle on others for minor infractions that hurt no one. Life is pointless if you go around looking to get others in trouble for next to nothing, in her opinion. If someone gets on her bad side, Sarona will find a way to get even with them eventually.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Sarona Gayle
AGE: 15
GRADE: Sarona is in the 10th Grade having done enough courses to get the credits to move up a grade early and take on advanced courses.
AU BACKSTORY:
Sarona grew up in a prominent upper class family who was well-affiliated with the Runesmith Guild. Sari has always had a natural affinity for Rune works and Inscriptions and by the time she was five she had already learned how to inscribe stones to glow so that she had extra light in her bedroom (allowing her to stay up late reading or studying) and was building small Golems that she would Inscribe specific action Runes onto that would have them perform simple jobs. But she was a sickly child who was near blind to the point of needing specialized glasses and her older brother teased her constantly for it. He picked on her looks, health, lack of friends, even mocking the only friend she had, the housekeeper’s son. But what Sarona lacked in physical prowess she more than made up for in creativity, ingenuity and intelligence. She would prove them all wrong if it killed her, really.

This all came to a head when her brother got into the Runesmith Guild when she was 10. Her brother who positively sucked at Runic Inscription work and couldn’t build a sturdy golem for his life. So she decided to investigate how this could have happened. What she learned changed everything for her. It was all a sham. Her parents gave the guild money and so her brother got to join the ranks as if he had earned it.

When they wanted her to join two years later, she didn’t want to, and instead became enamored with the Inkmetal Forge guild, who came to help the poorer, rural areas around the suburbs after a terrible storm. She loved their mission in helping others and the Runic tattoos they proudly displayed on their bodies rather than just on the armors they used. She all but begs them to recruit her, and refused to give up after the initial rejection. She stalked them around town, providing them golems and tools with her own Inscriptions, and helped out where she could. She even fell ill and they took care of her, nursing her back to health when her own parents couldn’t even be bothered to come fetch her and bring her home.

She rejected the Runesmith invitation, got into a huge fight with her parents (mainly her mother) and snuck out of the house to seek out the Inkmetal Forge’s camp. She continued to argue that they may as well accept her now, or just deal with her following them back to Michigan where their headquarters was—alone. Unsupervised. When the leader asked her how she planned to stay with them, considering she was still under the age for being on her own without her parents’ approval, she merely told them she’d already thought of that and would handle her parents if the time came. Because Sarona had taken more than enough time to gather evidence against her parents that could cause them not only legal trouble, but the undoing of their social status and prestige. If they wanted to avoid the kind of scandal she would bring down on them, it would be better if they let her go. Not that her parents ever did come for her. Instead the one time she tried to make contact with her family, her mother all but told her she had been disowned.

Months later, she received the invitation to attended Daybreak Academy, and even though she originally hadn’t been interested, her Master Guard, the man she apprenticed under, insisted that if she were to stay, she had to continue her schooling before she could truly move on in her Runic studies. And he would expect nothing less than excellence from her, because only hard work would prove her worthy of the next stage in her lessons. So Sari took his advice and accepted the enrollment to the school, believing that with a school as vast and varied there had to be more she could learn that would surprise him. Impress him.

In the two years she’s been studying at the Academy Sarona has already jumped a grade due to her loading herself with extra courses and even taking weekend seminars if and when they are available. She may not always be the most well-behaved student and she may even get into trouble at times for back-talking or contradicting her teachers, but she thrives on the depth of the knowledge and learning at the school. At Daybreak, she’s not the only prodigy, but she is doing everything she can to prove she’d the best at what she does. She’s already become fluent in Japanese in just the two years of studying there, as with the high percentage of Japanese students (and faculty), she wanted to be sure she could communicate with them effectively. During holidays, if she doesn’t remain on campus, she returns to Michigan or to wherever her Master Guard is currently stationed for work in the States to continue apprenticing under him and helping with whatever his current mission is.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: N/A

RACE: Human
SECRET SOCIETY: There are two Rune Guard guilds that Sarona has a connection to. The Runesmiths are a prestigious, wealthy guild with several branches that has been around for generations. Anyone in the know about Runic Guilds has probably heard of them at the least. The Runesmiths have gained notoriety for being exclusive and using their wealth to only accept “the best” into their ranks, but truthfully, money talks and if you’ve got money and can pay your way in, you’re set. Some of the smaller, less typically-run guilds are aware of this about them and probably do not look at the Runesmiths as favorably as the average guild might.

Sarona rejected the Runesmith Guild to join the Inkmetal Forge, which is a smaller, less wealthy guild that travels the country doing inscription work and using their armors to help rebuild areas after natural disasters or repairing broken infrastructure that is crippling a community. The Inkmetal Forge is more inclusive and believes that anyone who is willing to do hard work and put their all into it can become a Rune Guard. They believe effort and determination are just as important as knowledge and natural skill, if not more so. They also have a strong core for philanthropy and do not agree with Guilds that horde their knowledge and don’t use it to better society. The trait about this guild that makes them more infamous is that majority of the guild members use Rune Tattoos. Inscriptions they design themselves that give them special abilities or allow them unique mental control over their armors. One cannot simply tattoo a rune onto their body, they have to tattoo the right Inscription that is keyed into them specifically. The more skilled and advanced an Inscriptionist of this style becomes, the more intricate and varied their tattoos are. Graduating from an apprentice ship in this guild to become a full-fledge member is when they receive a specialized tattoo designed for them by the leader of the guild that gives them a mental bond to their own unique armor. Sarona is currently a newly fourth year apprentice, working under her Master Guard, who wanted her to expand her knowledge of not just Runes but also other forms of magic and societies, which is why she is currently attending Daybreak Academy.

POWERS:
Prodigy in Runic Inscriptions, and has a hobby of making small golems that do basic tasks, such as picking up laundry, or watering planets.
Four (4) Runic Tattoos on her body that provide various skills/abilities.
-- First (1st) on her right arm that she designed herself that allows her to manipulate and bend metals with her bare hands.
-- Second (2nd) on her left breast that improves her health, not exponentially, but it boosts her immune system to prevent her from falling ill as often as she did as a child and it means if she does get sick her body works through the illness much faster. A cold may last only a few hours versus a few days.
-- Third (3rd) tattoo is on her left leg, which she boost her speed in temporary bursts. She can move so quickly it’s almost as if she’s teleporting from one location to another, but this is not something she can maintain so it only works in thirty second increments and she can only use it five times before she has to rest.
-- Fourth (4th) tattoo is on the back of her right shoulder and is actually a link to the basic armors used by the Inkmetal Forge. It allows her to activate the armors while not being inside of them and direct their actions remotely. These armors are very simple and only can perform certain tasks and skills each.
Makes Temporary Runic Tattoos that have an even more finite time span for their usage, but can create a greater burst of power and energy. These tattoos are made with a special ink and put on a specially treated paper that can then be transferred to a person’s body. These tattoos are generalized and can be more mass-produced than the unique specialized tattoos that the Inkmetal Forge members put on their own bodies. Longest one of these tattoos lasts is a week, but came be removed sooner with a special oil the Inkmetal Forge developed.
Three (3) years of martial arts training under her belt, too.
